NRE Maintenance is proud to have been nominated this year for a company award of ‘Outstanding owner/operator in the cleaning industry 0-10 employees’. This award recognises a company which has established the most outstanding training culture and best practices throughout its organisation with the focus on employees.
Building Service Contractors Association of Australia (BSCAA) is Australia’s peak industry representative body for the building services industry. Every year the BSCAA hold the Excellence Awards to acknowledge those in the industry who have gone above and beyond.
This year the award categories for the Queensland BSCAA division are:

Benefits of being Nominated
A past BSCAA nominee had this to say about the benefits of being nominated;

NRE Maintenance was nominated by FreshOps, a cleaning industry scheduling software, which NRE Maintenance use to be accountable for their cleaning service.
“Rod is an example of the opportunity the cleaning industry can present to professional people who apply themselves to building a great cleaning company.
After taking a small redundancy from a management role with Caterpillar in 2015 and with little more than $20K and no cleaning experience, he has now surpassed a turnover well into 6 figures and employs 2 staff and a further 3 casuals. This is the heartbeat of the Australian economy and the benefits of him being courageous, as so many before him have done, can’t be understated.
Rod saw an industry where prospects indicated that everyone was the same and they didn’t know what was being done. Rod turned to FreshOps to differentiate his cleaning operations and to Xero for his accounting, and both tools have helped him go from 3 clients to 11 in a little over a year. And as his systems are perfectly scalable he can see his way to 10+ staff readily.
His three things that he puts his growth down to are spot on too;
- Proactive Communications – to clients on what has been done and is to be done, and to staff to ensure they do exactly as was promised in the contracts. And critically, he knows anything missed BEFORE the client.
- Accuracy and Speed in Quoting – With time on-site captured, live, for every job by FreshOps and Xero capturing other costs he knows exactly what to quote and by being fast he knows he beats most competitors to the punch.
- Feedback – his staff let him know after every job what was done and what supplies are need needed on site for each client.
From the outset, Rod clearly wanted to set his standards high and he has set sought out management systems and taken on advice that helps him win business and then keeps it by delivering EXACTLY the services he said he would.
We think Rod is an EXCELLENT example of an Owner/Operator for less than 10 employees. We wish him all the best in this award process.”
