Crying over a broken heart? Maybe a burger will help?

Eating out in Brisbane?

It has been a while since NRE has delivered a review of eateries that satisfy the hardworking office cleaner. Not because I have stopped enjoying the gastronomic delights that Brisbane has to offer. But because I have spent too much time eating and enjoying and not enough time writing. My waistline has been suffering to be honest.

Introduction

Once again we are reunited with ‘Dorothy’ (see here for explanation), who gratefully receives any invitation to have a meal out. a happy man enjoying a burger and a shake

This time we are visiting the Broken Hearts Burger Club in Morningside. A place I have often driven past on an evening when out cleaning offices. It is noticeable that even on a strip with a lot of food outlets there always seems to be a queue. So, must be good?

We visited on a Tuesday around lunchtime, and as expected for a food outlet on such a busy road the parking wasn’t great. Eventually we just parked down a side street, which was a better option than battling for the 1-hour parking outside.

Ordering

Once inside we had to wait, as usual for our guest of honour. We got a coke from the fridge and sat at a table. There is no table service her, waiters or a wine menu. Afterall it’s a burger joint, but at least it is clean, the music not too loud and we didn’t have to wait too long for our guest.

The ordering process is pretty simple. There are two choices, Classic and Fancy. Although you can have them in single, double or triple size. I chose Classic double, which consist of a double stack of smashed patty, American cheese, pickles and special sauce. Jacob chose Fancy double, the same as the Classic, it just adds tomato and lettuce. The Fancy is for the more health-conscious dinner I suppose. A bowl of cheesy fries, alongside chilli fries does lower the health score a bit.

The order was taken at the counter, and arrived in a reasonable time, especially as the place is starting to fill, and the uber orders coming thick and fast.

The food

The food arrives wrapped in grease paper and in a small basket. Again, we are not talking high end stuff. But the lack of presentation is made up for in the tastiness of the food.

Every mouthful of the burgers is a delight. The patty is moist and cooked to perfection. Brioche buns are soft and tasty. And the pickles, cheese and sauce do not overpower the great taste of the meat and it is also of a decent size too. Don’t expect uniform burgers like another fast-food outlets. This is proper smashed meat in a bun!

Jacob also enjoyed his Fancy burger, and felt the tomato and lettuce just added to increase the overall taste, especially with fresh, juicy ingredients used. He also ordered a shake as well, which I am told was top notch.

The fries come similarly packaged as the burgers in their red plastic trays. We had the share option so there was certainly a decent quantity. So many that we struggled to eat them all, we gave it a good shot though! I am not a fan of the American style cheese they were coated in, but my guests enjoyed them. I preferred the chili fries, although more chili would be better, but then more chili is always better, don’t you think?

Conclusion

Overall, I was really impressed with the food and the shop as a whole. Its clean, reasonably priced and the food of excellent quality and quantity. And it was a shame I had driven past so many nights and missed out on such a great feed. Being a bit tight I am not sure and extra $2 for the lettuce and tomato is necessarily needed as the burgers are great without rabbit food.

It even has proper recycling bins, so you don’t throw out the trays. And if you have been following my ‘Office Bins of Brisbane’ on Instagram and Facebook you’ll know why I get excited about bins!

There are also 8 other Broken Hearts burger clubs in the area, maybe I need to check them all out….just for consistencies sake!!
